Canon 24-70

Fairly Inconsequential

Or so I thought anyway. Just something to pass off as an update on an otherwise run of the mill ( so far) weekend. About a week ago, I spotted a screaming (i.e. great) deal on B&H for a Canon 60D. Presumably because it’s an old model and due to be replaced by the 70D next month. However, while the 70D will be all the latest gadgets and gizmos, bear in mind that I haven’t bought an SLR since myRead More

Bray Head Hotel

Admittedly, I had intended on skipping the part of last Saturday’s photowalk that took place in the hotel. My intention was to come along after the start and meet the crowd in Kilruddery gardens for some sunny sauntering and leisurely photo taking. As if to motivate myself to take some photos, I even cleaned my 5D’s sensor for the first time since I bought it several years ago. On arriving suitably late in Bray and buying a cup of distinctlyRead More

War Memorial

It’s a while since I was last down in the War Memorial park taking photos. In fact the last time was probably some time in 2010 on a trip down there with Julie to photograph all the trees shedding their blossom. It’s somewhat appropriate to post this now given that I’ve we’ve gone back on the ol’ running (or at least shuffling along at slightly faster than walking pace). The War Memorial park is one of the top locations forRead More

Colours of Autumn

December 13, 2011 Canon 24-70, Canon 5D, Macro, Wicklow

My first post in December and I’m back with a couple of photos and a large bag of excuses. I became the newest splitter at the end of November when I left my old job and started a new one. I think either I underestimated how busy I’d be or grossly overestimated the ‘settling in time’ I’d end up taking because it’s been crazy pretty much since I started. Sadly, updating the blog has been far from top priority althoughRead More

The Office Party

Top of the Rock, September 2009. We were anyway, they were slightly below us. Just after the sun went down over the horizon, this crowd came out to play. Hell of a place for an office party. Hell of a place for a photowalk come to think of it.

Jiggered

June 5, 2011 Canon 24-70, Canon 5D, Event

Proof that yes, I did take some photos at the Irish Blog Awards 2011 photowalk in Belfast. Also proof that yes, I’ve been very very lazy in processing them.  I blame numerous things including acute procrastination. A truly beaten wheelbarrow that kind of sums up my mental and physical state after the last 6 weeks or so. It’s been almost non-stop traveling with work, 5am drives to the airport, 14 hour days, incomprehensible foreign languages and all that. I’d likeRead More

Crossing

While taking my time on the way back to the ferry from Derbyshire on a nice sunny morning, I found this place while quite lost. I was looking for a place to buy a sandwich and a cup of tea before hitting Holyhead for the ferry but that’s neither here nor there. For those interested in my sandwich and tea exploits, I did eventually find a shop with marvelously cheap & tasty sandwiches only about 5 mins from this spot. It struckRead More

Another part of Holland

Struck me last night while clearing out some old photo sets from Lightroom, I’ve uploaded relatively few photos from various trips to Holland. These are from 2009 and have sat pretty much unseen since I took them. I’ve blogged a couple of them in the past but neglected the rest. Inkeeping with my attempt at uploading sets instead of singles, here’s the full set. Well, here are a few of them anyway. The rest of them are tucked away inRead More

Flowers Made Easy

The Flowers Made Easy photowalk yesterday in Dublin went off without a hitch, thanks to all the folks at Flowers Made Easy and those at photowalk.ie that made the trip possible. To sum it up in as few words as possible, it was like a trip to the Botanic Gardens but without all the required walking. Also, as you may have been tipped off by the photo above, Fran was knocking about with some foam props. There was also anRead More

Almost Liberty

November 3, 2010 Canon 24-70, Canon 5D, Landscape

I’d like to get back to NYC for a few days. Maybe Boston for a few days. Just to roam and be free

Speckled

September 20, 2010 Canon 24-70, Canon 5D, Dublin, Event, Macro

Sculpture in the Botanic Gardens. One of the lesser barmy ones.

Going Up

Getting to the summit the easy way, inside a rather small gondola. In the distance, where we started in the car park. Not pictured, where we were going. A beautiful sunny but cold day and a fantastic view awaited us at the top. The more I look at all the Scotland photos in lightroom, the more I want to go back. Soon.. soon..

443

August 16, 2010 Canon 24-70, Canon 5D

Somewhere in NYC, downtown I think. Going through all the shots from New York that I still haven’t processed, now nearly a year later.

Lovely Hurling

Out with the home made band saw and the equally home made sanding belt. One template, a bit of craft sawing and sanding later and the finished product is good enough for Croke Park.

Carbon Footprints

Owners waiting for the parade to start at the Stradbally steam rally last weekend.

Heartbeat

July 30, 2010 Canon 24-70, Landscape, Scotland

i.e. what I’d go back over there in. I think I left my phone charger somewhere between Stirling and Fort William, I better go back over and spend 20 years looking for it.

Jacobite

After climbing into the cab, met this cheery chap ready to dispense technical information and little known gems of wisdom relating to the line and the train. While the other several hundred tourists were taking photos of various bells, whistles, levers and dials I talked him into doing a quick bit of modelling. Cue for today’s photo taken from Julie, who\’s also posted some fantastic chuffing (or should that be chuffing fantastic) shots.

Overcooked Hills

Off to that castle again tomorrow so won’t be posting over the weekend. Looking out on a contrast ++ sea from the top of Goats Path in West Cork. Just before winding down the other side of the hill into Kilcrohane and onto the headland.

Gardens of Napoli

Almost, but not quite… Photowalkers doing their thing during the June get together in west Cork. This particular stop was Garinish Island, one stop after Gougane Barra but one before the impromptu ‘it’s too early to go drinking yet’ trip to Sheeps Head. One of the best photowalks yet, if only because this time I know the area I was traipsing around. Half way there now, only 6 photowalks to go!

Home from the Sea

Galway, by the water.
