The Loneliness of Chairs

I’ve always passed these benches when driving through Phoenix Park and always thought it odd that nobody is ever sitting on them. What a lonely life they must have. Come to think of it, there’s a hell of a lot of lonely looking benches in the park. It’s just not fair damn it. Ordered a shedload (well, like 10 rolls) of film today on 7dayshop.com. Hopefully it turns up before the weekend.

Fingers that smell like fixer

Having been after a medium format camera for quite a while, I picked up a Bronica ETRS during the week. Got some film for it at Focus on Imaging last Tuesday, spent the weekend shooting and an hour or two on Sunday afternoon developing. More learning to develop first. Yes, I\’d never developed a roll of film before today. Well, not ‘the old fashioned way’ anyway. I’ve done hundreds of rolls of 35mm using automated mini-labs. Very pleased with theRead More

Howya Donkey!

February 27, 2009 Canon 24-70, Canon 5D, Cork

Looking for a specific donkey at the sanctuary in Liscarroll in north Cork. Turned out she was a huffy cow.. err, donkey. In other, very unrelated news, pixie have finalised an amazing package for bloggers, photobloggers and pixie users for the St. Patricks day festival in Dublin. Details on the pixie blog. Big thanks due to the Guinness Storehouse and Canon. Roll on the fun!

Shandon

February 26, 2009 Canon 24-70, Canon 5D, Cork, Event

My first ever trip up to the top of the Shandon bells! Err, and I’ve lived in Cork for how long exactly? Don’t feel too bad though, it was Donncha’s first time up there too. We were both in awe. Deaf awe. Those bells are damn loud. Especially when there\’s a little kid mercilessly pulling on the ropes several floors down.

Sobering up in Gougane

February 25, 2009 Canon 50, Canon 5D, Cork, Event, Landscape

This is the one where I thank everyone for the kind words, where I thank pix.ie for sponsoring, thank Damien for organising yet another amazing blog awards, thank all that it is that inspired me (good and bad) to take the photos that you see on this blog and thank God that after 3 years, I finally won the damn thing!

Reach For The Sky!

February 21, 2009 Canon 24-70, Canon 5D, Cork

Tattered and torn bull-rushes swaying in the breeze. Wait, there was no breeze. Swaying for effect then. Either way, they’re in the Gearagh in west Cork and I sank a few inches into the murky depths while taking this photo. Those shoes were later finally executed on a very cold holiday in Canada. Damn good shoes.. damn good.

Soundcheck

February 20, 2009 Canon 50, Canon 5D, Dublin, Event, People

Soundcheck at Spy last night. Some very cool music (although still not too sure about the Rolf Harris) and cake. Yes, cake. May just have to go back. Similarly to everyone else that’s getting ready to pack up and hit the road, we’re heading Leeside for a long weekends blog awarding and catching up with folks. See whoever’s going at the awards tomorrow night!

Tin Man

February 19, 2009 Canon 24-70, Canon 5D, Cork, Macro

When a man’s an empty kettle He should be on his mettle And yet I’m torn apart Just because I’m presumin’ That I could be kind of human If I only had a heart…

Up The Walls

February 18, 2009 Canon 24-70, Canon 5D, Dublin, Macro

Climbing the walls before the blog awards in Dublin last year. Then, not so much. Mmmm, pints.

Cheese-eye-view

February 13, 2009 Canon 30D, Dublin, Macro, Sigma 30

Back from latest travels to Slovakia and the 5D is back from hospital. So pretty much all sorted for the blog awards this time next week. Can’t wait!

DOD / TOD

February 11, 2009 Canon 50, Canon 5D, Cork, Macro

Carvings on a tree, a lifetime ago in a very hilly forest in west Cork. I wouldn’t believe I ever saw them, if it wasn’t for the overwhelming evidence of possessing a photo of them.

Old Dublin’s Alive and Well

February 10, 2009 Canon 30D, Dublin, Macro, Sigma 30

After a walk around city hall (and a spot of rain which lead to a much needed cup of coffee), I stopped here for a moment while all around me everything was dripping wet, glistening and waiting to be photographed.

Irelands Eye

February 8, 2009 Canon 24-70, Canon 5D, Dublin, Landscape

Ireland’s Eye, just a short rowing boat ride off the coast of Howth and still full of deadly, deadly seagulls. Damn those seagulls.. Damn them all to hell.

Chainlink

Nasty great big fence surrounding a lovely crumbling building. On the other hand…

Growth

February 5, 2009 Canon 24-70, Canon 5D, Cork, Macro

Taken a lifetime ago, this vibrant blue moss grows from time to time on the half dead trees at the Gearagh, just outside Macroom in west Cork. To the best of my knowledge, the Gearagh is a man made lake, created by the construction of the hydroelectric dam further down the river Lee, just outside Cork city. I am open to correction though!

In The Wild

February 4, 2009 Canon 24-70, Canon 5D, Landscape, Wexford

A sometimes violent blustery wind blowing through the crops in a field a few hundred yards from Hook Head lighthouse in Wexford.

Chubb

February 3, 2009 Canon 24-70, Canon 5D, Macro, Wicklow

Under lock and key at Kilmacurragh in Wicklow. So much more interesting than your average padlock!

The Stables

February 2, 2009 Canon 24-70, Canon 5D, Event

The decaying stables at Charleville Castle in Tullamore Co. Offaly. Taken during the now annual boards.ie meetup in 2008

Treelined

Another from Kilmacurragh, that previously hidden spot in Wicklow.

Feathers Flying

January 30, 2009 Canon 24-70, Canon 5D, Dublin, Macro

There must have been a bird through here at some stage… Or at least part of one.
