My first ever trip up to the top of the Shandon bells! Err, and I’ve lived in Cork for how long exactly? Don’t feel too bad though, it was Donncha’s first time up there too. We were both in awe. Deaf awe. Those bells are damn loud. Especially when there\’s a little kid mercilessly pulling on the ropes several floors down.

Tattered and torn bull-rushes swaying in the breeze. Wait, there was no breeze. Swaying for effect then. Either way, they’re in the Gearagh in west Cork and I sank a few inches into the murky depths while taking this photo. Those shoes were later finally executed on a very cold holiday in Canada. Damn good shoes.. damn good.
Soundcheck at Spy last night. Some very cool music (although still not too sure about the Rolf Harris) and cake. Yes, cake. May just have to go back. Similarly to everyone else that’s getting ready to pack up and hit the road, we’re heading Leeside for a long weekends blog awarding and catching up with folks. The interior of Alexander Nevsky Church in central Sofia. After a few days of ceaseless chatter in various languages and all the associated too’ing and fro’ing of work, it was a welcome experience to be able to sit, be quiet and enjoy the cavernous interior of this church, lit only by candles (and bulbs that were supposed to look like candles).
Being shown around the old part of Bratislava earlier in the week. Only a couple of square miles, but such an amazing wealth of photographic opportunities. It’s everything I expected Sofia would be but turned out to be the exact opposite. Ah well.
Back from latest travels to Slovakia and the 5D is back from hospital. So pretty much all sorted for the blog awards this time next week. Can’t wait!
Not quite. Last week I was in Sofia. Then I came home for the weekend. Then I flew out again on Tuesday to Bratislava (via Ryanair). Business Class… What’s that?
After a walk around city hall (and a spot of rain which lead to a much needed cup of coffee), I stopped here for a moment while all around me everything was dripping wet, glistening and waiting to be photographed.

Making notes on the flight home on Thursday. Spent much of the last week working in Sofia, Bulgaria and very glad to be leaving to return to Dublin. The city is… well.. not what I expected to say the least. Strike it off your holiday destination list. More of that particular rant later perhaps. Also missed all of the damn snow. Taken a lifetime ago, this vibrant blue moss grows from time to time on the half dead trees at the Gearagh, just outside Macroom in west Cork. To the best of my knowledge, the Gearagh is a man made lake, created by the construction of the hydroelectric dam further down the river Lee, just outside Cork city. I am open to correction though!
A sometimes violent blustery wind blowing through the crops in a field a few hundred yards from Hook Head lighthouse in Wexford.
