Howth Beach

On Howth beach, shooting a roll of Orwo NP20 that expired 36 years ago. Give or take. January 1973 to be exact. I picked a shot that makes it look as bad as possible, but I am quite pleased with the way it came out. Maybe in a few days I’ll post a cleaner example. Film for this experiment in expired stock kindly donated by Julie.

Tara Street

Tara street dart station, where the first(?) boards.ie film meet started. A wide and varied selection of cameras (mostly of the cheap & plasticy variety) came out to play and by all accounts, a great day was had. As I processed and scanned these yesterday, I did notice a weak whimper from my camera bag. On further investigation it appeared that my 5D has all but given up hope of ever seeing the light of day again. Poor little bugger.

Streets paved with…

Just outside Dublin castle during the meetup a couple of weeks ago. Have been very much living an off-line existence the last few days, back from a couple of days in London and another chance to fly with the “we’re as pleasant as we’re going to get, ALRIGHT?” Aer Lingus.

Older Dublin’s Alive and Well

It was odd, I felt drawn back to this. Previously visited in digital, this film version is for those out there that like their photography a little more analog. Now I can’t decide which one I like better!?!

Reserved

For someone apparently very important in the greater scheme of things. Lots of empty reserved parking spaces at Dublin castle. Well la de da!

If Walls Had Ears

What kind of stories would this old building tell? It’s been a while since there was a nice relaxing stroll around the city with a few fellow photographers. Met on O’Connell street, ended up walking (via a food market) to Dublin castle, onto Christ Church and finally into the Bull & Castle for some afternoon pints. To be repeated again very soon!

Landmark

Kinda back where I started, nice landscapes catching my eye and the first from the film that I will get printed over the coming week or so. Driving back towards Dublin after a day around the Wicklow and Sally gap. Really love that Ilford Pan F 50 iso film too. Going to have to stock up on that! On a related note to the title of the image, today marks one year since I posted the first photo on glasseyRead More

Vaults

The vaults at Glasnevin Cemetery in Dublin. Not the kind of place to be walking around at night if you’re of the paranoid, ‘things really do go bump in the night’ crowd. Or during the day if you’ve got someone with you who was planning to sneak up on you when you were composing a photo.

The Gap

April 11, 2009 Black and White, Film, Kerry, Landscape

Driving through the Gap of Dunloe in Kerry. This time with a camera and with the inclination to take photos. Last time, not so much. There was a heavy mist lying low on the hills so the black and whites possibly look a bit dull and grey. The velvia should be interesting though. The place was crazy colourful.

The Black Stuff

In a similar shot posted by a whole load more people that were there on the day, heres a bit of Guinness for ya! Mine took a bit longer to get online due to the whole pesky developing, drying, scanning, processing thing. I\’m sure you understand. Also, feels a little strange that as I’m uploading this, I’m looking out the office window at the building in the picture. Fuhreaky!

Crumbling Castles

A castle on Fountainstown beach built with the stony sand mixture, which is all that’s available at high tide. One of the best beaches for ‘beach stuff’ (i.e. flotsam or litter), possibly only second to the strip of beaches and rocks you’d travel if you were to walk between Fountainstown and Myrtleville beaches.

My Spuds! Mine!!

Just like everyone else, I finally got a shot of these protective little gnomes in their shed at the vegetable garden in Dublin’s Botanic Gardens. They seem to be quite popular and word on the street has it that they’re in for a surprise.

Wall of Names

Memorial for the masses in the shade of blossom at Glasnevin Cemetery in Dublin. Took a long overdue drive up there on Sunday with Al for some filmy goodness. Cannot beat an afternoon of filmy goodness!

Flames for the Departed

April 4, 2009 Canon 24-70, Canon 5D, Cork, Macro

Candles lit in the incredibly small church at Gougane Barra in west Cork. One of my best friends is getting married here later this year and I’m led to wonder if this is the most exclusively difficult place to book for your wedding in all of Cork? Given that the seating capacity is no more than 20 or 30 people, I imagine it’s in the top 5 anyway.

Wall of Water

One of the main attractions (as far as I could see and apart from the gravity bar of course) at the Guinness Storehouse. A big mad waterfall, indoors! Long exposuralicious, I think I managed about 8/10 seconds on this one without the guy behind the torrent of water moving very much. Win!

Monahans

Much later than everyone else has posted more or less the same shot but give me a break, I only developed the film a couple of days ago and I only got my scanner today! Anyway, enough of the excuses. Taken on the docks in Drogheda, part of the way through a weekend meetup by a few folks. Those folks to be named at a later date. Or, they can leave a comment and save me the bother.. Either way.

Asylum for Drinkers

Otherwise known as the Guinness Storehouse, but this definitely has a bit of a 1970’s nuthouse feeling to it. Taken during the Pix.ie St. Patricks Day festivities and my first visit to the storehouse. Will go back, hopefully when there are less people around.. If that ever happens!?!

Barrier

Use the hook to grab the very large wooden sections. Swing them through 180 degrees and gently lower them into a channel cut into the concrete. Do that about seven or eight times and you’ve got yourself a barrier, closing one section of the dock from the rest. Think of it like a video game. A cold, wet and potentially deadly video game. With the smell of fish all around.

On the way

March 30, 2009 Canon 24-70, Canon 5D, Cork, Landscape

On the way down to Gougane Barra last month. On my many, many trips down there I always wanted to stop at this lake but there was always loads of people around. Me? Anti-social?!?

Out for a Stroll

Strolling, just like we were, on the rocky beach next to the train tracks. Not many kids out building sandcastles today. Well, not much sand to build them in either. I’m sure you could have fashioned an impressive rock castle though. Hmm, might have to try that one out.
