Johnsons Court

December 13, 2009 Canon 50, Dublin, Event, People

The narrow alley that some men love to hate. Lined on one side with jewellers displaying trays upon trays of elaborate engagement rings and other expensive trinkets in their windows. Lined on the other side by a very high wall. There truly is no escape. For your wallet at least.

You Dancin?

Part of the finally finished set from Kev & Eithne’s wedding in July. Hell of a night. Your turn next Foss…

A walk at the castle

A couple taking a breather during a walk around the woods at Ross Castle in Killarney, Kerry. This was back when the weather was nicer. What is it some people call it, summer? Sounds familiar.

O’Brien on High

So it was heard; Or rather overheard at these very cliffs that this tower (O’Brien’s Tower) is in fact the highest point in the world! THE WORLD! Where, you may rightly ask, did this groundbreaking nugget of information come from? Why, from middle-aged American tourists of course. I never knew that before. Someone better tell all those fools that climbed Everest that they should have been on the west coast of Ireland instead. So I’ve been aching to get moreRead More

so far so good

December 6, 2009 Canon 5D, Event, People

On the way back from the park, climbing the steps for the long walk back across the Brooklyn bridge.

Portraits at Time Square

November 21, 2009 Canon 5D, Landscape, People

Camera geekery aplenty. The whole week was one big photowalk with the odd break in between for cupcakes and shopping. The recent wave of people booking long weekends in New York for Christmas (there, I said it) shopping spurred me on to process another of these. Now I just have to get around to the other few hundred.

The Impromptu Fountain

Came home on Friday 13th to this. Someone had been fucking with a fire hydrant, screwed up the tap which came loose and unleashed quite a bit of water. That water made it’s way to the underground car park and to the electricity supply. The electricity sub boards are, funnily enough, right below where the hydrant is. Power was off for a few hours and the car park had a new swimming pool installed. A member of the Dublin fireRead More

Damn Posers!

November 11, 2009 Canon 5D, Event, People

Gemsbok in the American Museum of Natural History in New York City posing for a photo. No need to ask them to hold still in this case.

Sit this one out

Eoin standing the balcony overlooking the dancefloor at Kevs wedding. Carefully guarding his fresh pint of Murphys. In the background, a couple of those pesky bloody photographers. Flicking back through these reminds me that I still have to get the rest of Kev & Eithne’s wedding photos processed. It’ll happen before the end of the year, of that I’m sure!

Off tae stockies

October 27, 2009 Canon 50, Canon 5D, Event, People, Scotland

The usual weekend pilgrimage to Cowdenbeath Racewall for some stock car racing. As if that wasn’t enough, just to prove this all took place in Scotland I submit for your attention the above photograph. As always, a wonderful place to spend a weekend. Scotland that is, not a race track. But that’s not bad either.

Brian’s Bridge

October 22, 2009 Canon 5D, Cork, Event, Landscape, People

A fairly uninteresting shot of the Brian Boru bridge over the river Lee, taken from a corner of Michael Collins bridge. This is not Clontarf bridge, that’s on the other one that looks the same as this one. You’ll find that over near the city hall, where it’s been for a while now. Glad we cleared that up. Even though it’s not exactly the most awe inspiring shot, I still like it for some reason. But then, I am quiteRead More

Hello down there!

Julie, having deposited her 50ยข into the curiously designed binocular coin box, proceeded to spy on the unsuspecting inhabitants of New York City. The crafty devil…

All Things Still Dublin

Thanks are once again due to the hard working bar staff at the Radisson SAS Royal Hotel. Very helpful, friendly bunch of people who kept the beer fuelled mayhem progressing nicely all night long at the web awards last weekend. Looking at a photo taken in the same spot last year, I realise two things. One, the Guinness was significantly better this year (or maybe I\’m just getting used to it) and two, I’m nearly a year living in Dublin.Read More

And the winner is…

October 11, 2009 Canon 30D, Dublin, Event, People

As I’m currently processing shots from last nights Web Awards, I thought I’d throw up a quick taste. This is Rick performing his usual duties. Definitely got it down to a fine art at this stage. If you won, are a sponsor or are just interested in seeing the photos, keep an eye on the awards website over the coming days.

Mondello Masters

Too much time spent with the truly epic 300mm f2.8L IS. Darragh’s 300 2.8 for that matter. Can’t understand how I didn’t have a link to Darragh’s blog here either. Maybe because I’m truly awful at keeping up with peoples blogs these days? Anyway, wonderful event. I’d forgotten how good it was to photograph bike sport. Last time around it was motocross, a lot slower and a little easier (although a lot more muddy) than the masters. But bloody hellRead More

Sunville

September 30, 2009 Canon 24-70, Canon 5D, Cork, Event, People

On Summerhill north during the Cork Photowalk, put together by Damien, Pat and Donncha. Huge thanks to all three, very successful event as usual. I can only assume this lady was charging up the hill in training for the ladies mini marathon that took place the next day in the city.

All Weather Rider

September 20, 2009 Black and White, Canon 30D, Event, People

Mattie Griffin doing his stuff in the pouring rain at Japfest in Mondello park at the start of September. The weather didn’t stop him from putting on an amazing show, performing stunts that other (possibly sane) people wouldn’t attempt on a bone dry road. More from Japfest in the coming days.

Keep Right

September 18, 2009 Canon 5D, Landscape, People, Sigma 12-24

When crossing the Brooklyn bridge, it’s important to keep to the right of the white line. I learned this after seeing several tourists nearly getting taken out by locals cycling by at breakneck speeds. Also, I’ve become unimaginably attached to my sigma 12-24 already ๐Ÿ™‚

Snowy Pooves

September 17, 2009 Cork, Event, Film, Landscape, People

December 2000. Ireland. Carrigaline to be precise. White stuff on the ground. Possibly snow. We hadn’t seen it in so long that we weren’t really sure. Nevertheless, there were snowballs made, many photos taken on crappy old 35mm compact camera (my first camera). A walk to the top of the world and back again. It’s been too long.

Sherkin

September 16, 2009 Cork, Event, Landscape, People

September 2002. A trip out to Sherkin Island with Kev and Foss to swim (or paddle shin deep in my case), play football on the beach, take some photos and just enjoy the sun. Didn’t think I’d be back here only 7 seemingly short years later for Kev’s stag party. Then, the confirmation came that the other fella, Foss, is now also engaged. Good thing I don’t have a tendency to feel like the odd one out!
