A stroll around the city centre after a prolonged spot of rain…

Trinity

January 25, 2009 Canon 24-70, Canon 5D, Dublin, Event

One of the many photogenic spots in Trinity college grounds in Dublin city. Taken while strolling around with some fellow photobloggers.

Stephens Monoliths

January 23, 2009 Canon 24-70, Canon 5D, Dublin

A big mad stony fence of a thing separating one corner of Stephen’s Green from the outside world. Especially ridgey and utterly fantastic. Dear God I need coffee…

WWMD?!?

Taken in some pub off Stephens Green at a ‘photoblogger meetup’ just before the blog awards last year. It’s that time of year again, the time for blog award nomination lists to be announced, for people the length of Ireland to start sprucing up their blogs of all kinds and getting ready for the big night out in Cork next month. More importantly, it’s the time of year when we all ask ourselves, WWMD?

The Ents

Trees, like some you’d see in a horror film, standing in the grounds of the Botanic Gardens in Dublin. I feel that before too long, I’ll become an authority on all things botanic and gardeny. Not a bad thing perhaps?

Newness

January 2, 2009 Canon 30D, Dublin, Landscape, Sigma 30

My new view. Looking out onto some old building across (I really must find out what it is) across from my new place in Dublin city. Phone line in, broadband soon to be ordered (as soon as eircom find their arse with both hands), TV’s sorted, can now walk to work (in 15 mins) and the rent isn’t crippling. It’s nice to start a new year with a positive outlook, despite those who would seek to taint it. Happy 2009Read More

Watergate

December 14, 2008 Canon 24-70, Canon 5D, Dublin, Event, Macro

Surprising that a grade B item would be installed in such a prestigious place as Trinity college! Obviously an oversight on the part of the facilities management. Taken while strolling around the grounds before the blog awards earlier this year. Well, taken before disappearing off to the pub at the slightest sign of moisture falling from the sky before the blog awards earlier this year. Disgraceful!

Squared

December 12, 2008 Canon 24-70, Canon 5D, Dublin

A monolith, if not for the windows, in the middle of Dublin city. Somebody got creative with the windows but decided to use the set square on the rest of the building. At least it was a sunny day!

The Tunnel

November 9, 2008 Canon 5D, Dublin, Macro, Sigma 150 Macro

Back! Spent much of the last week working in London sans photos and therefore the photoblog was sans update. However, I’m back now! This is another of the botanic gardens macros, and one I’m quite happy with. Back to Cork tomorrow, first time being so far south in over a week. That’s a bit mad…

Back to the Macro

October 31, 2008 Canon 5D, Dublin, Macro

Another wonderful couple of hours spent at the Botanic Gardens in Dublin. The place seems to change every time we go there and yet again, I saw something I hadn’t seen before. And that’s not even taking into account the new looking ‘vegetable garden’ they\’re building. I was going to put up something Halloweeny today, but meh, this’ll have to do!

All Things Dublin

October 14, 2008 Canon 50, Canon 5D, Dublin, Event

A pint of Dublin sitting on a bar in a hotel in Dublin. No, the Guinness wasn’t great. It rarely is. Taken after packing up the gear at the first Irish Web Awards, another hugely successful event organised by Damien. Hit a wall of tiredness after not too long and had to retire for the evening. but the night was a huge success. Well done to all those involved. On a somewhat more disturbing note, I’ve grown rather attached toRead More

Botanic Brown

October 9, 2008 Dublin, Event, Macro, Sigma 150 Macro

Natural (as in not squirted or dropped by one in our company) water drops on a plant at the botanic gardens in Dublin. First time in a long time that I’ve used my macro lens. A refreshing change.

Botanics

An enjoyable afternoon spent at the Botanic Gardens in Dublin. Simon made the mistake of ‘loaning’ me his Canon 24mm f3.5L tilt shift lens. I very much doubt he’ll be getting it back. It’s my first attempt at anything tilty, having become an expert in all things slightly shifty some years ago. It’s a new experience… But then, lots of things are proving to be new experiences these days. Hmmm..

The Powerscourt Mixed Bees

October 1, 2008 Canon 24-70, Canon 5D, Dublin, Macro

A bee (possibly of the mixed variety) takes flight off some lavender (thanks) as the sun shone brilliantly for once. Proof that at least we had one weekend of sunshine this summer/autumn. Now, as we’re into Q4 expect dark evenings, wind, rain and all kindsa other marvellous goings on. Super.

The Process of Pizza

September 30, 2008 Canon 24-70, Canon 5D, Dublin, People

Pizza, made from scratch on Saturday night, with all the mess that comes along with it. There have been more good weekends lately than bad ones. Similarly, there have been more fantastic ones than good ones. This was such a weekend.

Nielsen & Co

A tag screwed onto the woodwork on board the Jeanie Johnston at the maritime festival in Dublin at the start of June. I’ve lately been re-educating myself that the details we sometimes miss in our everyday lives can prove significant. Why, you could even be passing a certain spot for years without noticing what’s hidden in the finer detail. Stop and take a look. You’ll only regret it later if you missed it and it’s gone forever.

Blind Mans Blackjack

Having ensured both his callers understood the jist of the game of blackjack, Rick proceeded to deal the cards. Why blind mans blackjack? Well.. Err.. Radio!?! This second in the ‘Rick 2008’ series (I’ll have enough to open a gallery with by the time I’m done) is brought to you today purely because I\’m in people photo processing mode. I’ve been processing a wedding (hereafter to be known as ‘work’) for the evening so it made sense to post aRead More

Like Rick, But a Year Older…

For the past… ohh, years I’ve been promising Rick O’Shea a portrait session. Ever since the first blog awards really when he expressed an interest in a photo I took of him. So vast amounts of time passed and nothing was organised until April 1st (I didn’t think he’d believe that I wanted to do it that day) when I went into the 2fm studios to take a whole load of photos. On scanning through them just now for theRead More
