moss

DOD / TOD

Carvings on a tree, a lifetime ago in a very hilly forest in west Cork. I wouldn’t believe I ever saw them, if it wasn’t for the overwhelming evidence of possessing a photo of them.

Growth

February 5, 2009 Canon 24-70, Canon 5D, Cork, Macro

Taken a lifetime ago, this vibrant blue moss grows from time to time on the half dead trees at the Gearagh, just outside Macroom in west Cork. To the best of my knowledge, the Gearagh is a man made lake, created by the construction of the hydroelectric dam further down the river Lee, just outside Cork city. I am open to correction though!

A new photography rule

November 27, 2008 Canon 24-70, Canon 5D, Landscape, Macro, Wicklow

That rule being, “Always keep a foreground rock handy”. Rocks and their commonplace use in the foregrounds of photos has been a staple foodstuff in my photographic recipe book for a long time. It never fails to draw oooh’s and aaaaah’s from all those who recognise a piece of quality photographic work. Rocks in the foreground. I love them. (I’m going to hold a ‘rocking up your foreground’ weekend course in 2009. Those interested should apply within.)
