Barrier

Use the hook to grab the very large wooden sections. Swing them through 180 degrees and gently lower them into a channel cut into the concrete. Do that about seven or eight times and you’ve got yourself a barrier, closing one section of the dock from the rest. Think of it like a video game. A cold, wet and potentially deadly video game. With the smell of fish all around.

Punchbuggy

March 22, 2009 Canon 5D, Canon 70-200, Dublin, Event

Toward the end of the festivities, the car clubs got their five minutes of fame. This time in the form of some very well restored VW beetles. Well, and one not so well restored, but I’m sure that was a work in progress.

Kicking off the show

The first (or second, I can’t quite remember but I’m sure someone will correct me) band to roll out at the start of the parade. The first (or second) of many, many brass bands and musical acts that drifted by over the course of the two and a bit hours. People near me were heard to comment that “it’s a shame there wasn’t a band finshing up the parade”. It did end rather abruptly. All that was missing was someoneRead More

Mícheál’s Notes

Notes written by a great man for a great day. Half man, half legend; Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh calling the Paddy’s day parade from up on high. G’wan ya good thing!

The Parade

A quick one from yesterday’s St. Patrick’s day parade in Dublin. Great parade, squeezed myself into a good location to view it, got within 5 feet of the amazing Nancy Cartwright (that’s Bart Simpson to those not in the know) and got a few hundred photos to add to the pix.ie group to boot! Then spent much of the rest of the evening drinking free Guinness and eating free food courtesy, once again, of pix.ie (and Canon Ireland and theRead More

Spheres

March 14, 2009 Canon 50, Canon 5D, Dublin, Event, People

Spheres, part of the St. Patricks Festival, at the docklands last night in Dublin. Slight technical hitch during the show (and a little sprinkling of light rain) but a worthwhile luas trip. Roll on the parade on Tuesday!

Tell Me All Your Secrets

March 4, 2009 Canon 50, Canon 5D, Event

Confession, St. Peters Church, Drogheda. Nobody around to hear it though so continued on. One from the meetup of a few fine folks over the weekend. We couldn’t resist going into this church, possibly only after being told that there is a rather old head on display inside. True enough, it wasn’t just a tourist trap ploy to get us inside for a prayer or two.

Danger

March 2, 2009 Canon 50, Canon 5D, Cork, Event, Macro

Strolling down around the Cornmarket Street area before the blog awards. Was that last month already? Wow. Well, I suppose we\’re only just into March so it’s not that bad. It was nice being in the city and seeing things I’d never seen before. Or not paid enough attention to because I’d spent much of my life so far walking so near to. One thing that wasn’t so nice to see is the big glass fronted monstrosity that’s been builtRead More

Shandon

February 26, 2009 Canon 24-70, Canon 5D, Cork, Event

My first ever trip up to the top of the Shandon bells! Err, and I’ve lived in Cork for how long exactly? Don’t feel too bad though, it was Donncha’s first time up there too. We were both in awe. Deaf awe. Those bells are damn loud. Especially when there\’s a little kid mercilessly pulling on the ropes several floors down.

Sobering up in Gougane

February 25, 2009 Canon 50, Canon 5D, Cork, Event, Landscape

This is the one where I thank everyone for the kind words, where I thank pix.ie for sponsoring, thank Damien for organising yet another amazing blog awards, thank all that it is that inspired me (good and bad) to take the photos that you see on this blog and thank God that after 3 years, I finally won the damn thing!

Soundcheck

February 20, 2009 Canon 50, Canon 5D, Dublin, Event, People

Soundcheck at Spy last night. Some very cool music (although still not too sure about the Rolf Harris) and cake. Yes, cake. May just have to go back. Similarly to everyone else that’s getting ready to pack up and hit the road, we’re heading Leeside for a long weekends blog awarding and catching up with folks. See whoever’s going at the awards tomorrow night!

All Terrain

February 17, 2009 Canon 24-70, Canon 5D, Event

Lonesome tyre, went off-road all by itself. No driver to guide it, it quickly lost it’s bearings and could not find it’s way out of the forest. Approach with caution, it’s off it’s rim…

The Stables

February 2, 2009 Canon 24-70, Canon 5D, Event

The decaying stables at Charleville Castle in Tullamore Co. Offaly. Taken during the now annual boards.ie meetup in 2008

Trinity

January 25, 2009 Canon 24-70, Canon 5D, Dublin, Event

One of the many photogenic spots in Trinity college grounds in Dublin city. Taken while strolling around with some fellow photobloggers.

WWMD?!?

Taken in some pub off Stephens Green at a ‘photoblogger meetup’ just before the blog awards last year. It’s that time of year again, the time for blog award nomination lists to be announced, for people the length of Ireland to start sprucing up their blogs of all kinds and getting ready for the big night out in Cork next month. More importantly, it’s the time of year when we all ask ourselves, WWMD?

Light Entertainment

A lighting tutorial session that quickly turned into a disorganised messing session at Charleville Castle in Tullamore during the boards.ie trip last year. Posting has been light due to lack of broadband (being sorted) and lack of photos (lack of broadband is killing motivation to process). Will have to get to a beach this weekend for some inspiration. As you may or may not have seen, nominations for the Irish Blog Awards are being taken until the 14th. I’m notRead More

Surfing for Us

December 17, 2008 Canon 30D, Cork, Event

Back to the past; 1st October 2005. Taken for the Ray Darcy/TodayFM project “Us”. The book was published with photos contributed from listeners to the show and money went to charity. Hurrah. Also, I, along with other talented photobloggers, have several photos published in it. Hurrah! Finding all these old photos as I’m packing up my computer gear in preparation for the weekend.

Watergate

December 14, 2008 Canon 24-70, Canon 5D, Dublin, Event, Macro

Surprising that a grade B item would be installed in such a prestigious place as Trinity college! Obviously an oversight on the part of the facilities management. Taken while strolling around the grounds before the blog awards earlier this year. Well, taken before disappearing off to the pub at the slightest sign of moisture falling from the sky before the blog awards earlier this year. Disgraceful!

Gather Around

Swans that aren’t even hungry crowd around a gentleman emptying a carrier bag full of foosty bread into the already murky (mostly from being full of soggy bread bits) waters of the lough in Cork city. Taken back when the sky was bluer, the weather was nicer and the days were hotter and t-shirts were entirely possible. Just to remind you…

Ladder Cat is Watching You

December 10, 2008 Canon 24-70, Canon 5D, Event

Caught while strolling around the outside of the castle at the now annual boards.ie photography forum Charleville meetup. Don’t forget, ladder cat is always watching!
