Developing and viewing the results of a few long overdue rolls has reawakened my need to get out and shoot some more black and white. So in honour of that, here’s a black and white from the film archive. Scanning of the newly developed stuff starts tomorrow (hopefully).
Inside Dublin’s City Hall during a photowalk an absolute age ago. Julie having a chat with Darren while everone else was off lying on the ground taking photos of the roof. Or something along those lines.
From The Burren, last year. Was going to say ‘back when it was sunny and calm’ but I don’t think it’s ever either of those over there. Shot on Ilford PanF 50 with a red filter. Improperly exposed and not a lot done to try and rescue it from that.

Taken for my sofobomo project, this is in The Burren in Co. Clare. During our weekend on the west coast, I spent a bit of time searching for the right wall, with the right patch of grass beneath it and the right patch of clouds behind it. I’m pretty happy with how this one turned out.
So I’ve not been around here in the last few days. Updating has gotten rather slack and I blame at least 67% of that on trying to get my SoFoBoMo ’09 book done on time. Time which runs out tomorrow. I don’t put a lot of thought into things sometimes. Planning ahead with any great certainty or in any massively well thought out way isn’t my bag baby. That might explain why I forgot my keys when I went down to the car park before work one morning… And locked myself in only to be rescued by an unwitting neighbour some 15 minutes later.
James’ street, just before it turns into Thomas street. What in previous years would have been your last chance to buy flowers of sweets for a friend or relative in St. James Hospital up the road. Nowadays, you can choose from any one of 45,000 spar or Centra shops in the immediate area.
Howth beach. A grand day out while the sun shines. Tides out so plenty of beach to play on. But don’t walk on those ripples of sand for too long in your bare feet or they’ll start to hurt. Or.. at least that’s my experience. Although I don’t think I ever successfully flew a kite. Deprived childhood don’t ya know.
Walking around the woods at Ross Castle in Killarney while the sun sets behind us. Just starting to get hungry too. Lucky there’s loads of hotels, pubs and restaurants in the town. Lucky also that it’s just before the tourist season. Although, there was one in the bar. How did she stand out? Why she asked for half a pint of Guinness and half a pint of Bulmers. Mixed in the same glass. A grand ol Irish cocktail.

A very old Citroen on the pier in Howth, shot with some very old film. Seemed fitting at the time. This fine example of an ancient auto caught the eye of practically all of us, so there will likely be many (or already has been many) shots of it posted on other blogs.
On Howth beach, shooting a roll of Orwo NP20 that expired 36 years ago. Give or take. January 1973 to be exact. I picked a shot that makes it look as bad as possible, but I am quite pleased with the way it came out. Maybe in a few days I’ll post a cleaner example. Tara street dart station, where the first(?) boards.ie film meet started. A wide and varied selection of cameras (mostly of the cheap & plasticy variety) came out to play and by all accounts, a great day was had. As I processed and scanned these yesterday, I did notice a weak whimper from my camera bag. On further investigation it appeared that my 5D has all but given up hope of ever seeing the light of day again. Poor little bugger.
